I started "Jana Scott Photography" in 2008 because friends and family believed in me and more opportunities to make images were literally dropping from the sky! Turning my passion into a business has been a tremendous experience.
I began taking photographs when I was 4 years old when my parents let me have a camera that used 110 film and one use flash bulbs….I carried that camera everywhere; until my father took me to NYC to by my first 35mm Olympus SLR from the electronics district, oh what fun!
The journey from then until now has been filled with lots of adversity but also great joy. I never let go of my desire to photograph. I have spent time in the darkroom & shooting film; in fact, my first wedding was shot with film in 2003. Spending 2 years running a fine art photography business for a brilliant photographer and I am still discovering things he taught me. Also, spending time learning digital everything (!!!) and all the while, I have never stopped learning or shooting.
Today I shoot with digital SLR’s and process all my own images. I love editing the images and enhancing the feeling of each image. I have learned that my passion is to create images and capture moments of connection between people. My style blends the best of photojournalism and creative portraiture. Sometimes… I see a moment & just capture it, then later enhance it in the “lightroom” and other times when appropriate, I enhance moments with suggestions and capture the outcomes.
I am always humbled when clients choose me to capture a part of their life and I am grateful for every opportunity to do so.
In 2011 I have decided to narrow my business focus. This decision means I will be shooting a limited number of artistic weddings and traveling with my rust collection to art festivals. At the end of 2010, I was invited to join the Surface Artist Co-op. I now have a storefront for my rust images and a cozy client meeting space. Look forward to seeing you there! |
